Inclusive Teaching for All of Us: Promising Practices for Undergraduate, Graduate, and Professional Educators In-Person / Online

Inclusive teaching discussions on campuses across the country are sparking conversations about feasibility, implementation, and actionable efforts. In line with Montclair State’s mission and vision, this talk focuses on student-centered inclusive teaching practices that are applicable to undergraduate, graduate, and professional instructors across disciplines and career stages. This public presentation features Khadijah A. Mitchell, Ph.D., M.S. who is the endowed Peter C.S. d'Aubermont, M.D. Scholar of Health and Life Sciences and Assistant Professor of Biology at Lafayette College, and co-author of the best selling book, What Inclusive Instructors Do. Professor Mitchell will provide evidence-based and intentional practices from a national inclusive teaching study that can be used in various learning contexts.

Khadijah A. Mitchell

Khadijah A. Mitchell, Ph.D., M.S. is the endowed Peter C.S. d'Aubermont, M.D. Scholar of Health and Life Sciences and Assistant Professor of Biology at Lafayette College. Her research program addresses the causes and consequences of cancer health disparities in African Americans for precision prevention and precision medicine purposes. Dr. Mitchell teaches undergraduate STEM courses that intersect with public health, such as Precision Medicine, Public Health Biology, and Molecular Genetics. She integrates research findings from her laboratory into each course, and takes ideas generated in the classroom back to her laboratory for further study. Dr. Mitchell is the recipient of many honors and awards for her research, teaching, mentorship, and service leadership; and uses her expertise to promote both health and education equity.

She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute after concurrently earning her PhD in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, a graduate certificate in Health Disparities and Health Inequality from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a graduate certificate in Teaching from the Johns Hopkins Teaching Academy. She received a MS in Biology from Duquesne University and BS in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh.
