Join us for this session with Montclair’s Director of Student Conduct, Christopher Trautman, and Kevin Schafer, co-chair of the CARE team and Associate Director for Residential Support Services in the Office of Residence Life. Christopher Trautman is thrilled to come back to Montclair as the Director of Student Conduct, after previously working in Residence Life while earning his MA in Higher Education Leadership at the University from 2015-2017. Prior to joining Montclair, Chris served as the Associate Director for Educational Initiatives and Assessment in Residential Education at The College of New Jersey, where he oversaw the advancement of the department's residential curriculum and helped lead various assessment projects to demonstrate student learning and improve the student experience.
Chris has also taught several courses at the college level, including a first-year student writing class at TCNJ and a first-year student transition to college seminar at Fairleigh Dickinson University. When not at work, Chris loves to attend theater productions, watch movies, and listen to podcasts.
Dr. Kevin Schafer currently serves as the Associate Director for Residential Support Services in the Office of Residence Life. Dr. Schafer has worked in the Student Affairs / Higher Education field for twenty years; he graduated from Siena College, in Albany, NY, with a degree in Psychology. Dr. Schafer obtained his Master of Arts and his Ph.D. degrees in Counseling from Montclair State University. Dr. Schafer is an adjunct professor at Montclair State University, Widener University and Caldwell University teaching classes in both the Counseling program and the High Education Leadership program. He has served in many different positions in student affairs. Dr. Schafer’s research interests are in the area of working with students on campus with mental health concerns.
Prior to arriving at Montclair State University, he served as Residence Hall Director at Seton Hall University. Dr. Schafer has been a key member in the development of many different initiatives while at the University such as the Mediation Resource Center, The Bystander Intervention Program, Gender Inclusive Housing, the Crisis Assessment Response and Education Team and most recently the development of Recovery Housing. Dr. Schafer co-chairs the CARE team at Montclair State University.
Dr. Schafer has presented at numerous national conferences on the successful collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and the development of a Culture of Support for students on Campus.
Catherine Keohane is Associate Director for Teaching and Learning for the Office for Faculty Excellence. Catherine has a Ph.D. in English from Rutgers University. She has designed and taught upper- and lower-division literature, humanities, and composition courses, and has experience teaching in multiple modalities. She has presented on student engagement at MLA, and has begun to develop open-educational resources that work to mitigate financial barriers to students’ success while also serving students' sense of belongingness.
