Research Workshop: Roads to Integration In-Person
This workshop focuses on how researchers can identify an interdisciplinary versus disciplinary problem. Once the commitment to the interdisciplinary approach is made, what are the best practices in group or individual work? What funding sources may be available? In this session, Dr. Gagnon will introduce key works from interdisciplinary research scholars that assist with launching best practices for integrative research work. Beginning with the ‘steps’ approach from Repko and Szostak, these and other modes will be introduced and discussed in the context of ‘wicked problems.”

This talk is part of the Office of the Provost Interdisciplinary Initiatives plan to commit to nurturing impactful, faculty-initiated research and teaching that integrates disciplines and promotes synergies among faculty by providing seed funding for research projects and team-taught course development and implementation, cultivating opportunities for faculty collaboration, and curating resources and workshops on conceptual and procedural interdisciplinarity.

Dr. Pauline Gagnon currently serves as Professor of Theatre at the University of West Georgia. She joined West Georgia in 1990 as Director of Theatre and has directed and taught production and performance for over 30 years. Dr. Gagnon has also served as Director of Interdisciplinary Studies, Dean of Arts and Humanities, Interim Dean of Science and Mathematics as well as Dean of Arts, Culture, and Scientific Inquiry. She is also actively involved in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work and has served as a consultant for and is a past-president of the international professional organization, the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies. She serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Issues in Interdisciplinary Studies and is a past editor. Dr. Gagnon holds an M.A. and Ph.D from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Kate E. Temoney is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Religion as well as the Special Advisor to the Provost on Interdisciplinary Initiatives at Montclair State University. She is an Editor of the Journal of Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal, and a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Committee on Ethics, Religion, and the Holocaust. Trained as a comparative religious ethicist, her teaching and publications are at the intersections of religion, human rights, genocide, and theory of history, and she is the recipient of several teaching fellowships on genocide and the Holocaust. Dr. Temoney holds an M.Ed. from the College of William & Mary and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Florida State University.
