Dialogue Across Difference: Acting (Out): Language and Power in the Classroom In-Person
This workshop, led by Dr. Fiona Harris-Ramsby, establishes a methodology for incorporating linguistic and cultural awareness into classroom and scholarly contexts. Participants will engage in exercises designed to enhance linguistic and cultural sensitivity. The workshop aims to give visibility to language norms that are often taken for granted and models the integration of societal topics into one's teaching and research.

Freddie (Fiona) Harris Ramsby is an Associate Professor of Writing Studies at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University. While she serves as Writing Program Coordinator at BCMSU, her research and creative work demonstrate the practical potential of critical discourse analysis, illuminating analytical techniques through theatrical engagement. Freddie is the author/editor of two books, as well as numerous articles and book chapters. Her books are Language and Power on the Rhetorical Stage: Theory in the Body (2021) and Rehearse Revise Regenerate, Critical Theater as Rhetorical Practice: A Digital Performance (Forthcoming Fall 2025).
Dr. Vera Senina is a cross-disciplinary teacher and scholar in the humanities, critical theory, medical narratives, and computational linguistics. Vera has experience teaching in diverse modalities, designing innovative student-centered courses, and organizing conference panels and workshops on inclusive curriculum development, assessment strategies, and project-based learning. She also has top-company industry experience in language AI, team development, and project management.
