The Pillar of Connection: Human Flourishing in a Culture of Belonging In-Person
The field of Human Flourishing takes an integrated and holistic approach to well-being, cultivating self-awareness, interconnectedness, personal values, and purpose. In this interactive session, invited guest speaker and expert Dr. Tony Chambers, Director for Community Well-Being at the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, will guide Montclair faculty, staff, and students to focus on ways the pillar of “Connection” fosters the power of collective flourishing and builds environments where everyone belongs and is empowered to lead fulfilling lives. Complementing Montclair’s fall 2024 Human Flourishing series, this workshop will explore various dimensions and paradoxes of belonging within the context of Human Flourishing. Dr. Chambers also serves as a Senior Lecturer in the department of Counseling Psychology, teaching in the area of human flourishing, and as the lead for community well-being focus in the Center for Black Excellence and Culture in Madison.
All of the Montclair State University community – students, faculty, and staff – are welcome to participate in the workshop. Light refreshments, sponsored by the Office of Student Belonging, will be provided.

Tony Chambers is the Director for Community Well-Being at the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Tony also serves as a Senior Lecturer in the department of Counseling Psychology teaching in the area of human flourishing, and lead for community well-being focus in the Center for Black Excellence and Culture in Madison. He was most recently the Associate Director of the WCER Network in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin –Madison. Tony was appointed to and currently serves on the Wisconsin State Superintendent’s Equity Stakeholder Council, and the Midwest Achievement Gap Research Alliance (MAGRA).
Courtney Glore Crimmins is a Faculty Developer in the Office for Faculty Excellence and serves as OFE's Adjunct Liaison. She is also an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, where she teaches German. Her approach to teaching is based in collaborative, project-based learning. In both the face-to-face and online courses she teaches, students work together in small learning groups, explore authentic digital resources, and use technology to learn the language. Courtney has a Ph.D. in Germanic Language and Literature from the University of Michigan.
