Faculty Search Facilitator Training

Faculty Search Facilitator Training In-Person

A 90-minute workshop designed to prepare search leaders – search chairs, search committee members, department chairs, search assistants – to effectively guide faculty search committees in fair, equitable, and evidence-based hiring processes. Participants will gain practical skills in fostering constructive dialogue, ensuring that all voices are heard, and managing disagreements within the committee.
The training will help participants assemble a good roadmap for the search, refine screening rubrics, develop interview questions and on-campus activity plans, and plan to conduct a strong search and provide a valuable and compliant recommendation. We will use a mix of scenarios and guided discussions to work on strategies for grounding decisions in clear, objective criteria, enabling committees to navigate complex discussions with confidence and integrity, and to support decision-making processes that align with institutional values and contribute to an intellectually diverse and vibrant academic community.
This training is highly encouraged for all members of faculty search committees for tenure lines and teaching faculty lines. As the training will facilitate the development of actionable and authentic faculty search assessment strategies and documentation, we recommend that participants coordinate with the other members of their search committees to attend together when possible, set goals that are relevant for the entire committee’s work, and share deliverables after the training has been completed.
Before attending this workshop, participants will need to have received a certificate of completion for the Faculty Hiring Best Practices course (see link for more info) offered asynchronously by OFE. Certificates are good for three years.
